Calgarians woke up to more snow Monday morning, as March comes to an end.
“Five to 10 centimetres probably fell last night across the city of Calgary,” said Eric Van Lochem with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). “We have a disturbance crossing the southern part of the province, it worked it’s way in last night from British Columbia, quickly tracking eastward across the southern part of Alberta — basically what’s responsible for all of the snow that fell in Calgary last night.”
Flakes are set to stop falling sometime this morning, according ECCC.
After that, the sun should peek through the clouds, but a 30 per cent chance of flurries remains.
Temperatures will remain below zero for the day — ECCC is forecasting a high of -2 C with a wind chill of -13 C in the morning and -8 C in the afternoon.
“It’s not until end of the week, Friday, Saturday, that things start climbing toward upper single digits or maybe towards the double digits,” Van Lochem said.
A special weather statement was issued by the weather agency Saturday afternoon, warning of poor travel conditions through to Monday morning due to bands of heavy snow. In Calgary though, snow didn’t truly accumulate until Sunday night.
This system arrived just days after a mid‑week spring storm dropped up to 20 centimetres in parts of Calgary while leaving other neighbourhoods largely untouched.
