Calgary golfer hits jackpot with $2 million lotto win

A Calgary man says he’s had even better luck than sinking a hole‑in‑one after discovering he won $2 million in the March 28 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Ray Born, an avid golfer with a 2:30 a.m. daily routine of watching sports and checking his lottery tickets, learned he’d hit the jackpot during one of those early‑morning rituals.

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation says he immediately woke his wife, despite the hour, before heading out for a celebratory round of golf, where he shot an 84.

Born is already dreaming of retirement and “greener pastures,” imagining a future with a golf‑course membership and even his own cart. He also plans to travel to Scotland, the birthplace of his favourite sport.

Before any big purchases or overseas trips, though, he says the first order of business is treating the whole family to a steak dinner.

Born bought his winning ticket at Tucker’s Food Store in southeast Calgary.
