Blasting winds are rattling Calgary Friday morning, prompting a wind warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
The weather agency says gusts have reached 90 km/h, up from 80 km/h earlier in the day.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken by afternoon into the early evening.
Conditions should return to normal overnight.
ECCC says high-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Some property damage is possible.
The windy weather has forced the relocation of the Calgary Expo’s Parade of Wonders Friday. Instead of winding through downtown, a party is replacing the parade on the steps of the BMO Centre.
This comes following a special weather statement Thursday warning of of heavy bands of snow through to Saturday morning; that warning from ECCC ended Friday morning.
The wind also wreaked havoc when it began Thursday, ripping a section of paneling off a section of the Plus 15 walkway over 2 Avenue SW near the Sheraton Suites. No injuries were reported.
In a statement to CityNews, the City of Calgary says it monitors weather and adapts operations to keep Calgarians and minimize impacts.

“During inclement weather, some City services may be modified or paused to protect residents and crews. This includes changes to street sweeping, construction, maintenance and other weather-dependent work,” a statement reads. “However, residents should not assume street sweeping has been cancelled due to weather. All posted temporary parking restrictions remain in effect until signage is removed and vehicles must follow the dates and times shown on street signs.”
