Gas line struck in SE Calgary, causing temporary road closures

Calgary fire crews were on Barlow Trail in the city’s southeast after construction workers reportedly struck a commercial gas line on Wednesday.

CFD spokesperson Alex Kwan says crews responded to calls that came in at around 11:30 a.m. at 114 Avenue SE and Barlow Trail.

He says ATCO Gas was on scene working to isolate the line, and added that traffic is reduced on 114 Avenue. The road fully reopened in the early afternoon.

“Fire crews have taken fire monitors into neighbouring buildings to investigate whether gas has accumulated in any buildings,” he said.

According to ATCO, a third-party contractor struck the line while doing road work in the area. There were around 150 customers that were impacted.

In the meantime, while construction in the area has already created delays, detours are expected in the area.
