Contractors hit gas line while doing road work in Banff

By CityNews Staff

Some businesses in Banff have been evacuated Friday morning after a third-party contractor hit a gas line.

ATCO Gas says the contractor was doing road work on the intersection of Caribou Street and Lynx Street in Banff around 8:30 a.m. when it hit a natural gas line.

ATCO says it is responding quickly and safely and once the leak is isolated, repairs will begin.

Repairs are expected to take between four and five hours.

At least five businesses have been impacted, some of which have evacuated as a precaution.

Bear Street and roads leading to Bear Street and Lynx Street are closed.

Residents and visitors are asked to stay away from the area.
