Police are investigating after a woman and a young child were found dead inside a northeast Calgary home on Wednesday afternoon.

Calgary police were called to the home in the community of Temple just after 2 p.m. on June 10 for a welfare check.

Officers entered the home and found the bodies of a woman in her 40s and a child under 10.

Investigators say they do not believe there is an outstanding suspect, adding there is no risk to public safety.

Police Chief Katie McLellan called it “a devastating incident” and noted it is the second time in just over a month that officers have investigated a suspicious death involving a child.

Officers discovered two children dead in a car in northwest Calgary at the end of April. A 37‑year‑old father has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings.

The investigation into the latest incident is ongoing.

Anyone with details is asked to contact Calgary police at 403‑266‑1234 or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
