A man at the centre of one of Alberta’s largest-ever child exploitation investigations has been rearrested after police say he breached the conditions placed on him following his initial release.
Corey Airhart, 35, was taken back into custody on Wednesday after Cochrane RCMP obtained a warrant alleging he violated terms imposed earlier this month.
Airhart was first arrested on June 3 after investigators discovered more than 500,000 child sexual‑exploitation files inside an Okotoks home. Officials described the as among the largest they have ever encountered.
Under his release conditions, Airhart was ordered to stay at least 50 metres away from places where children gather, have no contact with anyone under 16, and avoid all devices capable of accessing the internet or taking photos.
RCMP say they received a complaint on June 9 that Airhart may have breached those conditions. After investigating, officers secured a warrant and arrested him five days later in High River.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday.
Airhart’s case has drawn intense public attention. Shortly after his initial arrest, RCMP warned residents against any form of vigilante action, saying they had already received reports of threats and people “taking matters into their own hands.”
Despite those warnings, the Okotoks home linked to Airhart has been repeatedly vandalized, with police now investigating several reports of mischief at the residence.
