Man fatally shot by RCMP during warrant arrest attempt in Brooks

One man is dead following an officer involved shooting in the area Greenbrook Village, in Brooks.

Mounties east of Calgary say a man died Wednesday afternoon after officers tried to arrest him on a warrant in the city of Brooks.

Brooks RCMP say officers went to a home in the Greenbrook Village area around 4 p.m. to take a wanted man into custody.

When officers knocked on the door, the man tried to flee. During a following confrontation, RCMP say the man pulled out a weapon, and an officer fired their gun at him.

Police attempted lifesaving measures, but the man died from his injuries.

No officers were hurt.

Alberta’s police watchdog, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), is now investigating.
