Alberta’s police watchdog says an RCMP officer has been arrested and is facing four charges in a case of alleged intimate partner violence.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it had been investigating the allegations since early July, and the unnamed officer was arrested and charged on Tuesday.
ASIRT says the officer has been charged with assault, uttering threats, unlawful confinement and intimidation.
The agency says the officer was stationed in Blackfalds, about 140 kilometres south of Edmonton.
It says the agency has made a rare exception to not disclose the name of the officer to protect the identity of the victim.
ASIRT says the officer was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
