Just as students are getting into spring break, the Calgary Board of Education has informed 660News in a written statement that they have received information of someone claiming to have hacked into a school’s information system.
Some parents and students at Ernest Manning High School have been notified that their names, emails and possible student numbers, may have been accessed.
In the statement, the school board tells 660News, they believe the person responsible for the alleged security breach is trying to gain notoriety, but they are investigating the claim.
This release was sent late Friday afternoon from Communications Manager, Joanne Ramondt:
“We have received information from a person alleging to have obtained unauthorized access to a school information system. This claim is being actively investigated. We are also complying with all of our obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
This person may be seeking notoriety and publicity for his/her actions.”
