Students at Holy Redeemer Elementary School and St. John Fine Arts School in Kensington will need to find a new place to learn.
The Catholic School Board voted Wednesday night to close the schools, following a two-year public consultation involving a number of outlets.
Chair of the board, Mary Martin, says Holy Redeemer needed over $4-million in repairs, so it was the right time for the decision.
“The board’s decisions were informed by our extensive public consultation process that involved collaboration by administrative staff, teaching staff, support staff, parents and the broader community,” says Martin.
She adds, students from both schools will be put into nearby schools, so the board can offer better programs and larger facilities.
There’s no word on what will happen to the empty schools.
