Golf is going to the dogs in Airdrie

As Albertans head into the dog days of summer, there is a new way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors with man’s best friend.

At the beginning of June, Woodside Golf Course in Airdrie began allowing golfers to bring their four-legged friends on to the course while they play a round of golf.

Director of Operations Chris McNicol tells City News, they got the idea after some members attended a conference in Europe last year, where dogs on the golf course are commonplace.

“We started doing a little research and there actually is a Canadian precedent for this and that’s Predator Ridge Golf Resort out in BC — so, one of the higher end golf courses in the country — and they’ve been having huge success with the program so we thought we would give it a shot,” he said.

Sundays after 4:00 p.m. is the designated time to take your dog on the course.

There are a few rules: dogs have to be on a leash, they need to be behaved and non-disruptive, and owners need to clean up after them.

The program is a first in Alberta.
