BC Government hoping to save rafting industry along the Kicking Horse River

The BC Government is giving 45-thousand dollars towards finding a solution to a land dispute along the Kicking Horse River.

The problem happened two months ago, when CP Rail put up fencing along its rail lines, which prevented Glacier Raft Company from crossing the tracks and allowing rafters access to the lower canyon.

The action by CP has hampered the industry and affected tourism dollars in the Town of Golden.

Mayor Ron Ozust says he is pleased with the decision and hopes it will lead to a more long-term solution.

“It’s been a very large issue for our community, especially for the rafting industry. Historically rafters would get in around lower canyon, raft through some amazing jewel of the Columbia River, white water raft into town, then spend some time in town,” Ozust said.

He hopes they can get something more permanent in place later this summer.
