Tragic horse deaths at Stampede

It has been a tragic 24 hours at the Calgary Stampede.

Four horses have died and a rider was seriously injured.

Most recently, an outrider’s horse during the chuckwagon races pulled up with an apparent injury and then collapsed.

Meanwhile, Doug Fraser from the Stampede tells 660News a horse broke its back during the Novice Saddle Bronc event and was humanely euthanized.

The second horse death happened around 6:30 this morning when a driver was out on the practice track when his horse suffered a heart attack.

Last night, another horse suffered a heart attack during a competition at the Saddledome.  Amy Carver hit her head when the horse rolled over her.  She remains in intensive care.
