Bill C-69 facing criticism in new report

A new report says changes to the environment assessment process for energy projects may make things even worse.

The Fraser Institute is out with a new report criticizing Bill C-69, which is about to replace the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

It says the bill still leaves the final say on an energy project up to cabinet and the environment minister, so decisions are likely to remain highly political.

As well, the paper points out more factors will be considered during the assessment phase, which could lead to decisions being even more discretionary.
