Deerfoot reopens after serious crash in SE Calgary that sent 3 to hospital

Three people have been taken to hospital, one in potentially life-threatening condition following a multi-vehicle crash in se Calgary Friday afternoon.

A stretch of Deerfoot Trail has reopened in southeast Calgary after a serious crash that has one person fighting for their life in hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of Deerfoot and Peigan Trail SE around 2:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Paramedics tell CityNews one person was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition and two others were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Southbound Deerfoot was closed between Peigan and Glenmore Trail for nearly two hours with traffic being redirected onto Peigan.

The closure caused major delays throughout part of the afternoon rush. Southbound Deerfoot reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
