Thousands take in a sunny final day of the Calgary Stampede

By

The Calgary Stampede wraps up Sunday and thanks to overall good weather organizers have enjoyed a boost in attendance.

On Saturday the cumulative attendance was 1,157,826, as compared to 1,097,458 last year.

Wrap up comments and a special announcement were made Sunday morning by the President and Chairman of the Board of Stampede, David Sibbald along with CEO Warren Connell.

Connell says 93 per cent of guests told them their expectations were met or exceeded at 2018’s Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth.

He says a quarter of those guests came from out of town creating a boost in local tourism.

Sibbald also says the new entrances were a success in improving safety as well as getting guests in the park and having fun faster.

Sunday afternoon, the richest day in rodeo caps off with cowboys looking to fill their jeans with cash before riding out of town.

This year’s Stampede will end like others before it with the GMC Rangeland Derby and one more big fireworks show before the mid-way is dismantled and planning for 2019 begins.
