Victim identified in Panorama Hills shooting

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – New details are emerging about the brazen shooting and murder of a 38-year-old man outside his Panorama Hills home in the city’s northwest.

The Calgary Police has identified him as Roy Chi Yan Mac.

Investigators believe Mac was returning to his home late Monday night around 10:45 when three suspects ambushed him in his vehicle.

“Mr. Mac had just arrived home in his vehicle where the shooting occurred, on the driveway while he was entering his garage,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Ken Carriere. “I believe up to three people were waiting for Mr. Mac to attend his residence at which point the shooting occurred.”

Carriere said he couldn’t speak to any criminal background of the victim. He’s been a long-time residence of Calgary and could only say Mac is not known to the Calgary Police Service.

“Descriptions are very limited at this point which is why we’re making the request for anybody with video capacity to share it with the police service. We have had members out for the last 24 hours looking for video and we have had some success but we are looking for more,” he said.

The investigators couldn’t elaborate on any suspects, persons of interest or suspect vehicles.

Investigators are proceeding on the premise that this was a targeted attack given that he was approached by three individuals.

Mac’s murder makes this the 16th confirmed homicide in Calgary of the year.

Anyone with information on the shooting or anyone who may have vehicle dash cam or residential CCTV surveillance footage is asked to contact the police-non emergency number 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
