CALGARY (660 NEWS) – You can now add the Calgary Zoo to the list of places now closed because of COVID-19.
The zoo said it will shut down effective Monday after consulting with the City of Calgary and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA).
“As a key cultural entity in our community, it is our responsibility to respond to the circumstances,” said Calgary Zoo President & CEO, Dr. Clément Lanthier. “This situation is unprecedented, and the safety, health and welfare of the animals in our care, our employees and our visitors is always our top priority. We hope that this closure is short in duration and look forward to welcoming everyone back to our zoo as soon as we can do so safely.”
The Calgary Zoo’s Animal Care and Veterinary team is carefully following reports regarding animals and the coronavirus and says strong supplies are in place to make sure the animals are still cared for.
As a public health precaution, the Calgary Zoo has temporarily closed. While this situation is unprecedented, our beloved animals remain in exceptional care. We'll be staying connected with you online, and look forward to welcoming everyone back soon. https://t.co/mB5zuo9aCZ pic.twitter.com/IEARrwVRBB
