Alberta confirms 1,115 new cases of COVID-19, 16 additional deaths

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta has confirmed an additional 1,115 new cases of COVID-19 within the province and 16 new deaths.
A total of 492 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.
Of the 16 deaths reported, 14 are from the Edmonton zone and 10 are linked to ongoing outbreaks.
Six deaths are connected to the outbreak at South Terrace Continuing Care, one is linked to the outbreak at Royal Alexandra Hospital and was previously reported, one is linked to the outbreak at Captial Care Lynnwood in Edmonton, and two are linked to the outbreak at Resealta Lodge in the Central Zone.
The remaining five deaths are all in the Edmonton Zone but not linked to outbreaks at this time.
There are currently 13,349 active cases within the province.
Of those cases, 348 are in hospital and 66 are in ICU.
“The sooner we can bend the curve, slow the infection rate, and reduce the need for COVID-19 hospital care, the sooner we can rebook the surgeries that will mean an end to pain and suffering for other Albertans.”

With 13,576 new tests being conducted, that puts Alberta’s postivity rate at 8.2 per cent.
This marks the first time in four days Alberta hasn’t set a new record for daily cases
