It’s time to turn your clocks back an hour

Your sleep-in will feel that much better this weekend.

Sunday morning the clocks will fall back an hour, marking the end to Daylight Saving Time.

Albertans recently voted narrowly to keep changing the clocks back and forth every year.

Just over half, 50.2 per cent, or 536,874 people, voted “no” to “Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?”

Just under half, 49.8 per cent, or 531,782 people, voted “yes.”

Following Oct. 18’s referendum, Service Alberta Minister Nate Glubish said this means they will not pursue the issue any further, however they will look at other jurisdictions that may decide to end the time change and figure out the best way to move forward in the future.

As you go through the process of resetting clocks on your microwaves and stoves, you’re also urged to swap out the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“Once you’ve done that, push the test button to ensure they are working,” says the fire department in a statement.

Firefighters say your detectors should be tested monthly.
