After being gifted with a few weeks of very light to no snow in the middle of winter, Calgarians woke up to a snowy surprise Wednesday morning.
Late Tuesday evening, a snowstorm blew through the city, leaving roads covered for the mid-week commute.

CityNews meteorologist Michael Kuss says the snowfall really picked up overnight but tapered off in the morning.
Still, it was enough for an unpleasant surprise for drivers who had to brush off their cars on Wednesday morning.

The Alberta Motor Association says many of the roads in and around the city were either partially or completely covered in snow and it would take some time before plows will be able to access secondary roads.
That snow may not stick around for too long as temperatures are expected to rise slightly heading into the weekend before dropping again on Sunday.
