Calgarians woke up to a snowy surprise this Sunday morning. It’s a cold, wet first day of spring in some parts of the city, and the farther north in Alberta you go it even feels like winter.
A text into the Traffic Centre says there is 3 to 4cm of snow and ice on the roads in the north part of the city, and intersections are very slippery. Drive carefully. #firstdayofspring #yyctraffic #660traffic pic.twitter.com/x8cHzIrvc0

There are poor driving conditions all around, with snowy weather hitting roads north of Calgary.
The Queen Elizabeth II Highway is partly covered most of the way to Edmonton.
According to 511 Alberta, a free traveller information service that advises on current road conditions, travel is not recommended in the Ponoka area due to winter driving conditions.
There has been a crash on NB #2 just north of Ponoka. Traffic is at a standstill. SB traffic in the area is also stopped. A caller says do not travel in the area… worst he's seen in 40 years of driving. #yyctraffic #660traffic #ABRoads pic.twitter.com/LJCQMdoKQy

They added to avoid non-essential travel until conditions approve.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Edmonton with 10 to 20 cm expected Sunday.
