Two popular shawarma eateries in Calgary have been temporarily closed after Alberta Health Services (AHS) cited health violations.
Suspension notices were handed to the Jerusalem Shawarma locations last week — one on 85 Street SW and the other on 16 Avenue NW — amid an investigation into the sale of uninspected meat.
The suspension also applies to a northeast warehouse.
Eight other locations are not part of the AHS probe.

The restaurants can re-apply for a food handling permit after a 14 day suspension and addressing concerns.
The eatery on 16 Avenue NW has been part of an investigation by the health authority before.
In 2019, AHS opened an investigation after multiple people reported getting sick after eating at the restaurant.
AHS said at the time an outbreak of norovirus was likely to blame. Other locations were also inspected after it was found cooked food was not held at the proper temperature.
It was also believed that some food was handled with unsanitary utensils.
