A high-risk offender who served a three-year sentence for luring a person under the age of 16 has been released Friday, Calgary police say.
Officers are warning the public of 40-year-old Robert Peter Myles Rees, who they say lured a teen through “means of telecommunication.”
In addition, Rees has also been convicted of sexual interference and child pornography offences, with police adding most of his crimes happened in the Edmonton area.
Police say he is subject to a release order and will be monitored by the Calgary Police High-Risk Offender Program (HROP).
Officers described him as being 6’4″ tall, around 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
“The Calgary Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of REES,” a news release reads.
Investigators say the process is to enable the public to take “suitable precautionary measures” and not to pursue any form of vigilantism.
HROP monitors offenders who have been released by the courts to the Calgary community and “who have been determined to have a high-risk to reoffend in a violent or sexual manner,” according to police.
