Teen assaulted by pair of strangers while learning to drive with mom in NE Calgary

A 17-year-old boy is in hospital after being attacked in a road rage incident in Calgary's northeast.

A teenage boy was left with serious injuries after being attacked during a driving lesson with his mom in northeast Calgary.

Police tell CityNews the incident happened on Tuesday night, around 9:30 p.m., on Madigan Drive NE.

A mother was teaching her 17-year-old son to park in an SUV in the area when a white pickup truck pulled up aggressively behind them.

The driver of the truck drove around their vehicle, pulled a U-turn, and parked next to the SUV, police explain.

Two men got out of the truck and tried to open the doors of the SUV.

At this point, the teen got out of the vehicle to protect his mom and was then assaulted with a weapon by the suspects.

His mom called police and the suspects fled the scene, police say.

The teen was seriously hurt and taken to hospital by paramedics.

Investigators are still working to identify the two men, described as 20 to 30 years old. One of the men was wearing a white shirt.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be an early 2000s white Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra extended cab, with some sort of object extending out of the box.

Police think there may have been additional witnesses to the incident who also filmed the altercation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers. Witnesses with video footage of the incident are asked to contact investigators at 403-266-1234.
