One person has been killed after a fiery single-vehicle crash in the city’s northwest Tuesday, Calgary police say.

It happened at around 2 a.m. when the driver and lone passenger, a 35-year-old man, was driving west on Crowchild Trail NW.

Then, as he was exiting onto Northland Drive, he left the road and drove onto a grassy median.

Officers say the vehicle sideswiped a concrete barrier and crashed into another before flying into the air and ejecting the driver. The vehicle flipped onto its roof and went up in flames.

The man died of his injuries on the scene.

Battalion fire chief Bruce Barrs says crews found the vehicle beneath the overpass, and a man lying on the ground.
