A new group that’s gathering women together four times a year to pool their money for charity, is holding its first meeting in Calgary Monday night.
“100 Women Who Care Calgary” has its members each bring a hundred dollars, they can nominate a charity and the organization that gets the most votes receives the funding pot.
Co-Founder Alison Lapczuk brought the idea to the city after attending a meeting of an Ontario chapter.
“I said, well this is a fabulous idea. It really spoke to me because it’s simple, it’s effective… I’m a busy mom, I really want to volunteer and support charities, I just don’t have the time. So when I saw this idea I thought, ‘well I can do that! I can do an hour and a hundred bucks, absolutely.”
She’d like to see the group grow to as many members as possible.
Monday’s meeting (Nov 4) starts at the Marriott Hotel Downtown Calgary at 5:30.
The meeting will take place at Trader’s Grill Restaurant on the 2nd floor.
