It’s not only celebrities and dignitaries who receive a white hat when they arrive in Calgary!
For the price of a $20 dollar straw hat, you can have a friend or relative partake in the ceremony.
Western Hospitality’s Debbie Stahl at YYC tells 660News, giving her department plenty of lead time to get organized will make sure all pertinent information is on the certificate and time to line up the volunteers to conduct the event.
Guests also receive a certificate stating they are “honorary Calgary citizens” for the duration of their visit.
The formal and fun part of the ceremony also includes your visitor reciting an oath, which officially welcomes them to the city.
