Developers working on acreages on the edges of Calgary are about to get slapped with higher levies.
On Monday, city council will debate how much those fees will go up.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says the increase is needed to meet the demand for services like buses that have to go further and further out into Calgary’s suburbs.
Alderman Jim Stevenson tells The Calgary Sun developers are going to have to pay more, but council needs to be careful not to price them out of the market.
He also says a decision to boost levies could drive homebuyers away.
