Opposition expected at ring road open houses

Organizers of open houses looking for feedback on southwest ring road options might get an earful of opposition when they hold their first meeting Tuesday.
Duncan Kent, President of the Lakeview Community Association and part of the group Save Glenmore Park, says he expects up to a thousand people at Tuesday’s open house.
He’s hoping people see that none of the five options currently proposed for the southwest portion of the ring road are good.
Kent says he’s concerned the 37th Street route seems to be the most popular right now. He points out that it runs through the Weaslehead and North Glenmore Park, as well as over a water supply that provides up to half of Calgary’s drinking water.
There are five meetings happening between February 22nd and March 3rd to ask Calgarians what they think of the proposed plans to connect Highway 22X with Glenmore Trail near Sarcee Trail.
Meetings are between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on the following dates:
– Tues. Feb. 22 – Bethany Chapel at 3333 Richardson Way S.W.
– Wed. Feb. 23 – Acadia Recreation Complex at 240 90th Avenue S.E.
– Thurs. Feb. 24 – Fish Creek Recreation Complex at 100, 333 Shawville Blvd S.W.
– Tues. Mar. 1 – Foothills Community Centennial Centre at 204 Community Way, Okotoks
– Thurs. Mar. 3 – Elbow Springs Golf Course Clubhouse at 240086 Lott Creek Blvd
