Fire destroys northeast home

Fire investigators are probing the remains of a home in the northeast after an early morning blaze along Castlegrove Road.
Fire spokesperson Brian McAsey says they are hitting hot spots and making sure everything is taken care of at the scene of the gutted home.
“Right now what we’re doing is simply going about the detail of making sure the effects of the fire are being taken care of, salvage, the overhaul, and of course helping the home-owner there make his claim with the insurance company,” McAsey tells 660News, noting the fire started around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, fire crews quickly determined that they would need to fight the blaze from a defensive stance, making sure it didn’t spread.
“At that point, what we did is we made sure that the people in the neighbouring houses were evacuated,” adds McAsey, “that they were being looked after, and making sure that that fire wasn’t spreading beyond it’s original point of origin.”
No one was living in the home and at this point there is no damage estimate.
Fire investigators will likely be on the scene most of Tuesday.
