BC Lions release Yonus Davis

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions have released kick-return specialist Yonus Davis. The 26-year-old Davis, a finalist for the 2010 CFL’s outstanding special teams award, is facing drug charges in California for allegedly accepting delivery of over 60 pounds of ecstasy tablets from undercover officers on April 9.
“The CFL has been long-considered a league of opportunity, but with opportunity comes responsibility,” said Lions coach and general manager Wally Buono at a morning news conference. Buono believes that if Davis had followed through on his plans to spend the offseason in Vancouver, he could have stayed out of trouble.
Buono points out it is not a happy day for the football team but that the team already has “players on the radar” to replace Davis. Training camp opens June 5 in Kamloops.
