City considers user fee hikes

The city is looking at whether Calgarians should be paying more in user fees for certain services.

It comes after Bylaw Services, the Fire Department and City Roads all asked a council committee Wednesday to let them find ways of generating more income.

Alderman Andre Chabot tells The Calgary Sun boosting fees too much may cause some citizens to refuse to do things like license their pets, in order to save money.

City staff are currently having discussions as to which fees, if any, should be hiked.

Council is expected to make those decisions during their budget process in November.
