Dogs on the mend

More than 30 pitbulls seized by the Calgary Humane Society have been given a new lease on life.
“Areas of concern were untreated wounds, lack of available water and overcrowding,” Peace Officer Brad Nicholls tells 6660News of the April 29th raid on a Northeast Calgary breeding operation. “The dogs fortunately were very social, nice dogs. And the ones that have been surrendered have been able to go out to adoptions at our facility.”
“It was a breeding operation in the northeast of Calgary,” says Desiree Arsenault, the Manager of Communications for the Calgary Humane Society. “There was a search warrant that was issued and so our peace officers, along with City of Calgary Police Services and City of Calgary Animal Bylaw Services attended the residence in April and they decided at that time they needed to remove the animals from the home.”
Nichol says there are still some animals that are looking for their permanent homes.
Charges under the Animal Protection Act are pending against the original owner of the dogs.
