A new series launched by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce will show off some of the city’s most innovative entrepreneurs.
Chamber President Adam Legge tells 660News the “If Series” will put some interesting Calgarians on the map.
“This series is basically the notion of celebrating the excellence in innovation that happens in Calgary each and every day,” says Legge, “that none of us are even remotely aware of. So we have people who are designing the soccer shoes that World Cup soccer players use. We have people who are creating things like iStockphoto.”
Legge says the series gives people the chance to learn about local entrepreneurs and hopefully attract new ones to the city.
“Excellence attracts excellence,” notes Legge. “So this series is about how can we profile excellence, how can we profile innovation and use it as a way to make that activity to be a magnet to generate more great people wanting to come to this city, more businesses wanting to be started.”
It’s also meant to be inspirational for Southern Albertans.
“This series is a way for them to talk about their journey, their successes,” adds Legge. “And an attempt to kind of replicate that through people saying: ‘I could do that. I could that in my business and in my community.'”
You will be able to read about the pioneers featured in the series online and you will also be able to go to see them speak.
Among the individuals and companies being featured are Bob McInnis, Executive Director of Brown Bagging For Calgary Kids and Westjet.
The Chamber is launching the “If Series” at a gala Thursday night at the Hyatt Hotel, featuring the Alberta Ballet’s Artistic Director.
