Police upping patrols for drunk driving

Police are promising a long weekend blitz to get impaired drivers off the road.
The Mounties, Alberta Sheriffs and city police are all promising more roadside Checkstops and patrols.
Cst. Jim Lebedeff with the CPS traffic section tells 660News they’ll be cracking down on other violations as well, including speeding, seatbelt use and intersection safety.
“It’s been a long winter,” he says. “We want people to get out there, have fun and enjoy themselves but get there safely.”
Lebedeff says the May long weekend is the start of the summer period when police expect to find more impaired drivers on the road.
660News hit several gas stations and coffee shops along the TransCanada highway Friday morning to check into long weekend plans among travellers fueling their cars and securing their RVs.
Many are making the trek all the way to the B.C. interior to places like Shuswap Lake, Osoyoos and Kelowna for camping, weddings and fishing trips.
