Culprits caught in black money scam

Two Montreal men are charged in connection with a black money scam in Calgary.

Police say two men tried to buy boats from Glenmore Sailboats in the northeast.

They claimed to be political refugees from Sierra Leone and the only way they could bring money into Canada was if it was disguised as plain white or black paper.

The pair then pulled out a piece of paper and washed it with a chemical, supposedly showing it transform into a 50 dollar bill.

Police say it’s a good thing staff became suspicious, because the store would have ended up with a pile of worthless paper.

Two suspects are charged with fraud over $5,000 dollars.
