City questions redeveloping arts centre land

Art advocates and the city aren’t seeing eye to eye on the importance of redeveloping an arts centre in the southeast.

President of the Calgary Arts Development Authority, Terry Rock, tells The Calgary Sun the city needs an arts facility east of Deerfoot Trail.

The estimated $10-million project is proposed to be on the southwest corner of 17th Avenue and 26th Street S.E.

The Land Use, Planning and Transportation Committee will look at a report from Administration this week that warns against redeveloping the land for the International Avenue Arts and Cultural Centre.

The report says the project won’t be a wise investment.
