A Calgary alderman says ‘city speak’ is confusing Calgarians.
At Monday’s council meeting, Alderman Druh Farrell will ask administrators to rethink the language used when city officials interact with the public.
She tells 660News they have a tendency to use confusing language and acronyms.
“We use terms like flat water pool when we mean swimming pool, or aquatic centre for swimming pool,” she says. “There’s ARP, SDAB, MDP, LPT, CPS. We use a lot of acronyms, maybe hundreds of acronyms and I don’t even know what they all stand for.”
Farrell says she’s seen Calgarians confused after hearing members of administration give presentations.
She says she’s been unofficially asking for a change but thinks the city is only getting worse and believes it’s time to move ahead with a formal motion.
