Alberta vehicles seized in B.C. highway crackdown

Hundreds of Alberta cars are being impounded, as B.C. enforces harsh new driving laws.
Between September 2010 and the end of June 2011, 216 Alberta cars were seized for impaired driving; but that doesn’t mean the drivers were legally drunk.
In B.C., if a driver has a blood alcohol level of 0.05 per cent, police can impound the car for three days, even though the legal limit for intoxication remains at 0.08 per cent.
According to The Calgary Sun, another 171 Alberta vehicles were impounded for excessive speed. The rule is drivers lose their vehicle for a week if they exceed the posted limit by over 40 kilometres per hour.
