Busy weekend ahead in Calgary

Music lovers will be packing Prince’s Island Park all weekend for the Calgary Folk Music Festival.
The 33rd edition of the event kicked off to a sold out crowd Thursday night.
Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic, rapper Cadence Weapon, and Vernon Reid of Living Color hardly fall under the traditional folk category, but will all be playing on a number of stages starting Friday night.
Artistic director Kerry Clarke says if the artist brings great song-writing and great playing to the festival, fans aren’t particularly fussy about the genre.
He adds that song-writing can come in the form of many genres, including more traditional folk music, Celtic music, rap and funk.
Though you won’t hear heavy metal or opera, you’ll likely experience just about everything in between.
If the folk fest isn’t your thing, or you weren’t able to get tickets, there are a lot of other events you can check out in the city over the next couple of days.
All weekend long Olympic Plaza will be filled with Latin food, dancing and music for Fiestaval.
And Sunday the community of Kensington will play host to the very popular Sun and Salsa festival.
