An Ottawa-based former pro wrestler has launched a $6.5 million lawsuit alleging he contracted Hepatitis C in a wrestling match in Cochrane in 2007.
28 year old Devon Nicholson, who fought under the name Hannibal, is suing 70 year old Lawrence Shreve, known as Abdullah The Butcher, in Ontario Superior Court.
Nicholson alleges that in May of 2007, Shreve taped a razor blade to his finger — a common practice in pro wrestling — to cut Nicholson. That’s when Nicholson claims he was exposed to Hep C, coming in contact with Shreve’s blood.
Two years later, Nicholson had a three year contract offer from WWE. It was during the medical screening process that it was discovered he had Hepatitis C. The contract offer was rescinded as a result.
Nicholson’s allegations have yet to be proven in court.
