Easter Seals launches unique campaign

100 superheroes will take a leap of faith and rappel 30 stories down the Sun Life Plaza Thursday for a good cause.
The event, in support of Easter Seals Canada, began in Halifax and has grown to include 13 cities across the country.
Every participant has raised a minimum of $1,500 for the charity for the right to descend the tower.
“The monies raised for the Drop Zone goes to support adults and children living with disabilities here in Alberta,” says event manager Audrey Bessy of the fund-raising event and its purpose. “Easter Seals runs Camp Horizon which is the camp specifically for people with disabilities, and it runs year round.”
Bessey notes the list of participants covers a wide spectrum of people.
“It comes from CEO’s to just your average people that want to get involved in a good cause,” she says. “Alot of people do it for the thrill. Alot of people do it to support Easter Seals and Camp Horizon.”
She adds every superhero has a different story.
“We have 16 teams that are involved,” notes Bessy. “Some of them come out for team building events. Some of them have been involved since the beginning, as well as a lot of single people involvement and friends wanting to get together to challenge themselves and support a good cause.”
The charity welcomes spectators at the event which begins at 7am Thursday and runs until 5:30pm. There will be live entertainment between 11am and 1pm on the corner of 1st street and 4th avenue southwest.
