Judge scolds Calgary landlord over property conditions

A judge unloaded on a Calgary landlady because of the condition of one of her rental units, saying it was worse than third-world housing.

Owner Mary Gazdarica pleaded guilty to 13 charges over conditions in a six-unit apartment building she owns on 23rd Ave. N.E.

Problems in the units include holes in walls, mould, and unsecured windows.

According to The Calgary Sun, the prosecution and the defence agreed to a total punishment of a little over $45,000 and the judge will decide Wednesday whether to accept the joint submission.

She’ll also decide on the fine for similar violations on another property owned by Gazdarica.
