AMA says ER wait times creeping up again

Emergency room wait times are starting to creep up again.
That’s according to the Past President of the Alberta Medical Association, Dr. Paul Parks.
The AMA wrapped up a two day annual general meeting for ER physicians, Saturday, in Kananaskis.
Parks tells the Calgary Herald wait times are back up to the levels of last year when the news media seized the story. The province responded, implementing eight-hour benchmarks for patient admission and added more beds to ER rooms across the province.
But Parks says recently the numbers have been increasing. He adds part of the problem is the number of patients who shouldn’t be in the ER system but require long-term or home-care.
The emergency room doctors hope to meet with new administration of Premier Alison Redford, and specifically Health Minister Fred Horne, soon to address the problem.
