The Health Quality Council of Alberta is being asked by Alberta Health Services to review laboratory testing at Rockyview Hospital.
The review is being requested after 31 pathology tests, done by Calgary Laboratory Services between December of last year and early this year, were previously flagged by A.H.S. officials.
A.H.S. CEO Dr. Chris Eagle says at this point there is no evidence that any patient received incorrect therapy or that their treatement was unduly delayed.
“Even a small number of cases for whatever reason warrants a thorough review. All of the cases were dealt with by a pathologists surgeons and corrective actions have been taken,” said Eagle.
A.H.S. says all of the physicians involved and all but three of the patients affected have been made aware of the situation.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta is also being asked to conduct a review of Calgary Laboratory Services.
