Calgary among the safest cities in Canada

Maclean’s has published the results of its 4th annual most dangerous Canadian cities survey.

Calgary finished in the middle of the pack.

Maclean’s Vancouver bureau chief, Ken MacQueen, tells 660News Calgary is in an enviable place, especially considering it has the fourth-largest population base in the country.

MacQueen says Calgary’s homicide, sexual assault and aggravated assault rates are all below the national average.

He says there are two areas of crime in Calgary that need to be addressed, robbery and auto thefts.

According to the numbers, Calgary’s crime severity index has dropped by 27 per cent in the past decade.

Prince George, B.C. has been dubbed Canada’s most dangerous city, followed by Victoria, B.C. with Saskatoon, Sask. rounding out the top three.

Ontario is home to most of the so called safest cities in the country with Caledon getting top honours.
