Sexual assault charges laid

Calgary police have laid a dozen charges against a man in a in relation to a sexual assault investigation that led to a suspect fleeing arrest Wednesday.

When officers tried to arrest the man in the southeast Wednesday afternoon, he fled and hit a police car in the process.

About an hour later, officers went to a home in Coventry Hills and arrested their suspect after he surrendered.

The 35-year-old man has been charged with sexual interference with a child under 16, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, hit and run, failing to stop for police and six counts of uttering or conveying threats to a person.

Police aren’t releasing his name saying his victim is known to him and releasing his identity would compromise the victim’s identity.
