City mails out property assessments

Home and business owners can expect a big bill from the city in the next few days.
Property assessments have been mailed out today.
The city says taxes for the majority of residential properties will be within plus or minus ten percent of last year.
Its estimated for this year, the average cost of a single residential home is $400,000, that’s down $10,000 from last year.
The price of condos have also dropped by the same amount to $240,000.
“Preparing assessments on an annual basis ensures property and business owners’ assessments maintain currency with changing market conditions and experience more stability in year to year property and business tax levels,” explains Stuart Dalgleish, Calgary’s City Assessor. “The market establishes the value of properties and businesses in Calgary; we simply measure that market value as of July 01 each year prior to the taxation year.”
Your property taxes are due by June 29th and you have until the beginning of March to file a complaint about your assessment if you do not agree with it.
All the numbers are based on last July’s market value.
